Directions to Trailhead: From PCH take Malibu Canyon until you are nearly to Piuma Road. The very small parking lot is on your left. From the 101, take Malibu Canyon passed Piuma Road and the parking will be on your right.
Hike History: At least two hikes have been led from this trail head. #501 (Battin led that goes to the Mash site and on around to Malibu Lake and back to trail head) and #1079 (Chady led that goes to Mesa Peak and return).
This Hike: This hike is to the Corral Canyon and return.
Hike Description: The hike starts on the Backbone Trail and very shortly transitions to the Mesa Peak Fire Road. About 2.7 miles a trail to the left goes to Mesa Peak. To continue to Corral Canyon go right or if you would rather, go left to the peak. If you continue to Corral Canyon you will reach the highest part of the hike after you have slogged about 3.9 miles and gained almost 1,800 feet in elevation. After dropping a couple hundred feet at about 5.1 miles you will leave the fire road to continue to Corral Canyon. The total one-way distance is some where between 5.2 and 6.0 miles (Ron Forbess 5.2, Back Bone trail map 5.6 and trail head sign 6.0).
