Directions to Trailhead, which is at Live Oak Park tennis courts, 1601 Valley Drive, Manhattan Beach, (on Valley Drive between 15th and 19th).
From 405 South: Exit west on Rosecrans about 1.5 miles, turn left on Sepulveda and right at next opportunity onto Valley Drive for about 1 mile.
From 405 North: Exit on Inglewood Blvd south for ¼ mile then right on Manhattan Beach Blvd for about 2.3 miles. Cross Valley Blvd (which is one way in the wrong direction) and turn right at first opportunity, then another right before turning left onto Valley Blvd for about ½ mile.
PARKING: Diagonal parking on the east side of Valley Drive between 15th and the crosswalk at the tennis courts is limited to 4 hours. Longer parking may be allowed toward 19th Street. There is parallel parking on the west side of Valley and parking along Ardmore Street which is above the east side of the greenbelt centered on Valley. There is paid parking near the beach.
RESTROOMS: Available beside the tennis courts and Joslyn Center (after 9:00 am) and at Veterans Park.
The Hike has 2 options:
1. Along the beach: Walk south along Valley Drive to 15th then turn right/west for a few blocks to the Strand paved walkway (or sand if preferred). Do not walk on the bikeway. Turn left/south through Manhattan Beach (may include the pier), Hermosa Beach (another pier), past Herondo onto Harbor
Drive (may visit the Marina which has no outlet or the Sea Life Aquarium near the Chart House).
2. Along the greenbelt centered on Valley Drive: Walk south until it ends at Herondo, turn right/west to Harbor Drive then left/south to Veterans Park as described above.
When Harbor Drive veers left/east continue straight/south along the edge of the parking areas to the Redondo Pier and one block farther on the recurrent Strand to
Veterans Park where there are picnic tables for lunch. After lunch you can stroll around the Redondo Beach Pier and then retrace your route back to Live Oak Park for refreshments. There is no seating at the park, so bring folding chairs.
